Why everything tastes better this week

Why your appetite changes

Changes in appetite and food cravings are among the signs the NHS lists for this week. Which means what you're feeling is real and has nothing to do with your willpower.

What helps

  1. 1

Small, frequent meals. The NHS's own advice for this week is exactly that: smaller meals, every 2 to 3 hours.

  2. 2

You don't have to fight it. If you fancy something, eat it. In a few days it settles on its own.

  3. 3

Don't skip meals. Going hungry usually costs you more by the evening.

When this is more than appetite

  • when eating, or not eating, is taking over your thoughts
  • when you feel guilt or fear after eating
  • when the way you eat is affecting your everyday life

These have nothing to do with the last week of the cycle, and there is help for them. Talk to a doctor.
